The Big E and Special K contests 2013 (PDF) were held on Saturday November 9. These are mathematics contests for undergraduate University of Waterloo students.
The
Special
K
contest
is
for
first
year
students
and
the
Big
E
contestÂ
is
for
upper
year
students.
Both
contests
consist
of
six
problems,
and
complete
written
solutions
are
required.
The winners of the Big E contest were:
- First place: Hao Sun
- Second place: Yifan Hu
- Third place: Ariel Gershon
The next few students, each of whom solved four of the problems, were:
- Ritvik Ramkumar,
- Rutger Campbell,
- Raymond Cheng, and
- Kangning (Colin) Chen.
The following few students, who each solved 3 of the problems, were:
- Yue Liu,
- Jordan Teitelbaum,
- Volodymyr Lyubinets,
- Robert Gooding-Townsend,
- Kaiyu Wu, and
- Huaxin (Henry) Liu.
The winners of the Special K contest were:
- First place: Daniel Spivak
- Second place: Shouzhen Gu
- Third place: Wenchao Du
The next few contestants, who solved 3 problems each, were:
- Trevor Clinkenbeard,
- Yi Liu, and
- Wuhan Zhou.

In each contest, there is a 200 dollar prize for first place, a 150 dollar prize for second place and a 100 dollar prize for third place.
