Spring updates from the Student Success Office

Welcome to spring on campus! All of us at the Student Success Office are wishing you the best this term. And we're here to help. Check out all the ways we can support you: 

Questions and support 

  • Drop by the Student Success Office to chat with us in person from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET 

  • Students can connect with us online through our Live Chat Monday to Friday 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. ET.  

  • Request student or staff-facing brochures to learn about our programs, services and support 

New Student Transition 

Academic development resources 

  • Peer Success Coaches offer in-person or virtual one-on-one appointments for personalized support to address academic challenges and create a plan for success starting May 9. Our coaches are upper-year students with experience overcoming their own study roadblocks.  

  • Students can use the Learning Skills Self-Assessment to determine their existing strengths and gain insight into which areas they should focus on developing. 

  • Through Tutor Connect on Portal, students can sign-up to be a tutor or search for tutoring support in the Spring 2023 term.

Student community and leadership  

International student support 

  • Free appointments with Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants are available online and in-person from Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET. Book a same-day appointment on Portal. 

  • We offer immigration information sessions on a variety of topics, including co-op work permits and post-graduation work permits. 

  • The International Peer Community offers community-minded programming for students looking to build connections and connect with peers. 

  • International student guide is a one-stop online resource for international students looking for support during their transition to Canada. 

  • 1:1 support is available for international students facing extenuating circumstances. Students are provided with targeted resources and receive guidance in accessing additional support as appropriate. Contact ise@uwaterloo.ca to learn more. 

Global learning 

  • Students that are interested in going abroad can connect with staff virtually or request an in-person appointment via email to studyabroad@uwaterloo.ca. We are working to support students that have applied for to go on exchange for 2023/2024. 

  • The Global Experience Certificate is an excellent way for students to highlight their achievements internationalizing their degree, including their experiences through work or study abroad, developing employability and transferable skills.
