International Student Advisors - Change to drop-in hours

International Student Advisors will be closed to drop-in appointments on Friday, June 30, 2017.

Drop-in hours have been temporarily reduced in order to allow International Advisors to respond to an increased volume of international student inquiries.

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) PhD Graduates stream

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has also temporarily closed the International Students PhD Graduates stream due to their registration intake limit being reached at this time. The OINP stated they will resume accepting applications through this stream in the next three months. Streams will be paused and reopened periodically until the province’s 2017 federal allocation is fulfilled. Please carefully read the OINP updates from February 21 to 24 as well as application requirements. The Human Capital Priorities stream and the French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream are still open at this time.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has reopened the International Students Masters Graduates and PhD Graduates streams as well as the Human Capital Priorities stream as online applications through a new online system. These streams are paths to permanent residence. Please read the OINP updates from February 21 and 22 carefully as well as application requirements.

Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System Update

As of November 19, 2016, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) formula, used to rank profiles in the Express Entry system, has been updated. Express Entry is the system used to manage permanent residence applications under some of the economic immigration programs.

This update includes additional points for a completed post-secondary degree in Canada, as well as a change in the points earned for LMIA qualifying job offers. For the complete list of changes, please read the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Express Entry notice.

If you think any of the IRCC listed changes will affect you, you need to log into your online account and update your Express Entry profile by answering the new questions added. After you have updated your profile, the CRS will update your score.

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) requirement in effect

If you do not require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to enter or transit through Canada and are not a U.S. citizen, you must now have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) when boarding a plane to Canada. This requirement came into effect November 10, 2016. As specified on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website, it is best to apply for an eTA before you book your flight to Canada as an eTA can take longer to process than estimated.
