Shelley Vossen, undergraduate advisor/co-ordinator in the Department of Management Sciences, was the recepient of a 2022 Faculty of Engineering Outstanding Staff Performance Award. The award recognizes staff who make outstanding contributions to the learning and working environment in the Faculty of Engineering. 

Management Sciences professor Saeed Ghadimi has been recognized by an international organization for work involving the interface between computer science and operations research. He shared an annual prize from the INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) Computing Society (ICS) for the best paper or group of papers in the field.

The Sustainable Aeronautics Summit at Waterloo Region International Airport heralded the call by leaders in industry, government, and academia to create innovative sustainable aeronautics futures on Wednesday, 5 October 2022. 

Second year Management Engineering student Ayush Bhargava is co-founder of Sway - a social commerce platform that allows creators to sell brand-partnered products and customer merchandise directly to their audience on their social media page. After winning a Concept $5K Grant in 2020, Sway recently got accepted in the Velocity Incubator, where the co-founders will receive support as they refine their initial start up idea, business model and proof of concept over the next several months.

Management Engineering and Management Sciences graduating students participated in the Spring 2022 convocation, held on the evening of Saturday, June 18. The event celebrated the achievements of a new generation of graduates. Two management engineering graduates received special recognition. Chi-En Amy Tai received the University of Waterloo Alumni Gold Medal, as well as a Sandford Fleming Foundation Medal for Co-operative Work Term Proficiency. Ryan Yen Kwee How Tein Fat won a Sandford Fleming Foundation Medal in Academic Excellence. 

Amy Tai, a Management Engineering graduating student (BASc '22) will be honoured at the upcoming Spring 2022 convocation with the Alumni Gold Medal in Engineering. The award recognizes her outstanding academic achievement.

Management Sciences professor Fatma Gzara, an expert on supply chain management and logistics, was recently featured in Episode 123 of the Beyond the Bulleting Podcast, where she discussed how world events affect manufacturing, shipping and the prices paid by consumers. 

A management engineering student who worked at Tesla during the winter term in 2021 has been recognized with an honorable mention in the annual Co-op Student of the Year Awards at the University of Waterloo.

Nimisha Saxena, who is in her fourth year, worked as a technical program manager intern at the electric automaker, assisting with the development of a third-party risk management (TPRM) program.

Management engineering students Omar Atwa and Omkaar Kamath recently earned a first place finish at the 2022 Canadian Engineering Competition, which was hosted virtually by the University of New Brunswick, Frederictorn. 

Omar and Omkaar competed in the re-engineering competition, where"competitors must redesign an existing product or process to either improve its functionality or to adapt it for a completely new purpose".  The designs are "judged based on functionality, practicality, feasibility, and marketability".

Management Sciences faculty members Fatma Gzara and Mehrdad Pirnia were recently featured in a webinar hosted by the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics (WISA). Professors Gzara and Pirnia joined a panel of speakers from industry and academia who are analyzing data to optimize various processes in aviation. A recording of the webinar is now available:
