The Layton Lab is producing videos to communicate research impact to a broad, non-academic audience.

The Lab is directed by Anita Layton, Canada 150 Research Chair in Mathematical Biology and Medicine, professor of applied mathematics, computer science, pharmacy, and biology, and the Faculty of Mathematics’ associate dean for research and international.

Mazen Melibari, assistant professor of artificial intelligence and machine learning at Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia, has been recognized by MIT Technology Review (Arabic version) as among the 30 most prominent experts in artificial intelligence in the Arab world for the year 2022.

Demaine is currently a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who had a storied academic career at Waterloo. He was admitted to graduate studies at the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the age of 14.

When Bilal Akhtar graduated from Waterloo’s software engineering program in 2019 he saw a bright future ahead. Not only had he landed a dream job at Cockroach Labs, a database company where he interned during his undergraduate degree, but he also led the company’s expansion to create a Toronto-based office.
