Join Us for the Inaugural PATH Science Symposium!

The Science Graduate Student Association (SGSA) is thrilled to present the Pursuits in Applied and Theoretical (PATH) Science Symposium, a Faculty-wide event in collaboration with the Applied Mathematics department. This marks the first year of an exciting new tradition, bringing together science students and researchers from across campus to showcase and celebrate cutting-edge research.
This full-day symposium is structured around the four key research areas identified in the Faculty of Science:
- 🔎 Discovery & Exploration – Expanding our understanding of the universe and fundamental sciences.
- 🌍 Environment & Ecology – Investigating ecosystems, climate change, and environmental science.
- 🧬 Health & Biomedical Sciences – Advancing knowledge in medicine, pharmaceuticals, genetics, and human health.
- 🔬 Sustainable Materials & Sensing – Innovating in materials science, engineering, and technology.
What to Expect:
- ✨ Invited Industry Speakers – Each research area will feature an expert from the private sector, offering real-world insights.
- 🎤 Keynote Address – A distinguished industry leader will close out the day with an inspiring talk.
- 📢 Student Presentations – Abstract submissions for poster presentations and flash talks are now open!

Information for prospective presenters:
You are required to select the pillar that best aligns with your research. Within your chosen pillar, please identify up to three subtopics that classify your research. If you wish, you may use the comment box provided to rank the subtopics from most applicable to least applicable. These classifications will be used to foster cross-departmental connections and highlight the interdisciplinary nature of research within the university.
- Abstract Submission Guidelines (Template)
- Format: Abstracts must be submitted as PDF documents.
- Font: Use Arial (or computer modern), size 11, single-spaced.
- Length: Maximum of one page, including the following:
- Your abstract text
- One figure (optional)
- References (must fit within the one-page limit)
Presentation Opportunities:
Submissions will primarily be considered for poster presentations. If you would also like to be considered for multiple conference sections or a flash talk, please check the appropriate box on the submission form.
Note: Positions for both poster presentations and flash talks are limited due to time and space constraints. Final selections will be made by a selection committee.
Notifications: All applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision via email before the event. We look forward to your submission and to showcasing the exciting research happening across our academic community!
