Speaker Applications Open until April 16!

Soapbox Science is coming to Kitchener-Waterloo! Join other researchers and take to your soapbox in Victoria Park to showcase science to the general public. The event’s mission: to help eliminate gender inequality in science by raising the profile, and challenging the public’s view, of women and non-binary people in science. These interactive, engaging talks encourage everyone to learn more about science.

Soapbox Science Kitchener-Waterloo will take place on Sunday, May 25th, 2025 in Victoria Park, Kitchener and we are currently recruiting speakers for the event.

Soapbox Science speakers commit to give an hour of their time at the event by speaking for a fifteen-minute block about their research and engaging the public in discussion, then repeating with a new group of public audience. Training and support are provided, and some travel funds may be available.

To be a speaker you must identify as female*, have a doctoral-level degree (or be studying to obtain one), and be an active researcher in any of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, either in academia or industry. The deadline to apply is April 16, 2025.

*Soapbox Science uses an inclusive definition of “woman” and “female” and we welcome applications from trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people who for the purpose of this event feel comfortable being female-identified.
