The WCA-KPL Astronomy Talk series takes place on the last Wednesday of each month and is jointly organized by the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics and Kitchener Public Library.
Cosmology is the study of the Universe as a whole, and asks questions like "How did the Universe begin?" and "What is our Universe made of?". However, answering these questions comes at a cost: huge questions require huge amounts of data and analysis. At September's KPL astronomy talk, Dr. Marco Bonici will discuss how a new tool -- Artificial Intelligence -- is helping cosmologists to understand the data collected from telescopes and answer the fundamental questions about the cosmos.
Marco Bonici is a postdoctoral researcher in the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Waterloo. His research involves studying the structure of the Universe on large scales and finding new methods to analyze data from telescopes such as the Euclid space telescope and the DESI instrument.
