The 2025 Faculty of Science Alumni Achievement Award ceremony celebrated the outstanding accomplishments of 8 accomplished alumni, and highlighted the impact of scientific discovery on shaping the world.
Joe Han, BSc ’06 (Science and Business), is an entrepreneur, investor, and advocate for the field of quantum physics. With a University of Waterloo degree in Science and Business, specializing in physics and astronomy, Joe uses his multidisciplinary perspective to propel scientific advancement in industry settings.

Dr. Philippe Van Cappellen has recently received the King Charles III coronation medal, and he’s in good company. These medals have been awarded to 30,000 Canadians to acknowledge their significant contributions to Canada.
