Jackie - Biochemistry

Science Ambassador
Jackie fun

Program: Biochemistry

Year: 4

Stream of study: Co-op

Pronouns: She/Her

Career goal: When I graduate, I hope to continue in doing industry-based research with the goal to one day work in either agricultural sciences or medical research.

How I get involved: Oh boy, where do I start. I love doing everything that our school has to offer. I got involved in Science Orientation and Ambassadors after my first year where I have literally met some of my best friends (some still are ambassadors with me 4 years later). I also got involved in intermural being involved in both soccer and dodgeball. I also attended events run by the faculty as well as warriors central as a fun way to interact with fellow students

Why I love my program

I love biochemistry. I was like the majority in saying I liked chemistry and I liked biology so naturally I would like biochemistry which was honestly so true. We get to learn all sciences within our degree. We do lots of biology- learning about cells, different molecular techniques and microorganisms but then we also do a bit of all chemistry. We learn about the elements, organic chemistry (how molecules form), inorganic chemistry and even thermodynamics (chem meets physics). Overall there is so much to learn and I have lovedddd every miniute of it

Why University of Waterloo?

I chose Waterloo initially because the feeling I had when I got on campus for the first time. I went to the fall open house and my face lit up. I loved the buildings and how cool everything looked but also just loved the community. I remember going into the mock lecture and then meet and greet with some profs and I knew Waterloo was where I wanted to be
