Program: Physics and Astronomy
Year: 4
Stream of study: Co-op
Pronouns: She/Her
Career goal: To continue my education to graduate school in science education & communication. I'd like to stay connected to physics academia and research throughout my career, and make a positive contribution to the next generation of scientists.
How I get involved: In my first year, I got involved in the Physics club and really enjoyed being part of the executive team- it helped me get out of my shell, make friends, and find my place within the undergraduate community. Since then, I have been a PHYS10 Committee member and a Student Representative for the Physics Department. Most recently, I was Chair of the annual Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference in 2023, and I am now the Science Society Vice President as well as a Science Ambassador!
Why I love my program
My interest in physics started developing when I was in high school and first took a physics class. I was intrigued by the intersection of math and science, and it felt like physics was unlike anything I had studied before. I knew I wanted to pursue STEM in university, and it felt like physics was the obvious choice and that there was nothing else I'd rather do. A few years down the line, I still love what I'm doing and I wouldn't change my decision (even when the math gives me a hard time)!
Why University of Waterloo?
The University of Waterloo was on my radar due to its co-op program and popularity for its STEM programs, but the individuality of the Physics and Astronomy stream is what really drew me in. It has the perfect balance of all the disciplines I love and this makes me excited to learn and word hard. When I was accepted to the program, it felt like a no brainer that I absolutely had to attend!!
