Lyvia - Physics and Astronomy

Science Ambassador
Lyvia telescope

Program: Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics Minor

Year: 4

Stream of study: Co-op

Career goal: I'm hoping to go into astrophysics research, but I'm indecisive and haven't figured out the specifics yet.

How I get involved: I'm a Science Ambassador, but I am also the copy editor for Dark Matter, the UW Science Magazine. I volunteer at the Physics Tutorial centre, and I'm a student representative for my program! It's definitely a lot, but being involved helps me feel so much more connected to other people and UW in general.

Why I love my program

Physics just feels like math (something I love), taken to a whole new level, and astronomy on top of that is just a great bonus. I have always loved space and calculations, so this has been absolutely amazing so far

Why University of Waterloo?

I chose UW because of the Science Ambassadors at OUF, and how welcoming and helpful they all were. I also loved how involved in current research so many of our professors are, and the sheer number of opportunities that the co-op program could provide.
