UWSA fees

Dear UWSA Member,

It has recently come to our attention that Human Resources has not been able to generate letters for the Staff Association Fees. 

Here is the statement from HR:

The current HR system (Workday) is not configured to recognize UWSA dues as tax deductible and as such, these dues are not captured in T4 slips. With the previous HR system (PeopleSoft), customized system generated letters were issued at the time of annual tax slips to capture the aggregate annual dues paid by employees. HR is working with the UWSA to determine whether these dues can be captured on T4 statements in the future and in the meantime, the UWSA will be issuing letters to membership with a summary of deductions for 2019. Members’ December 2019 pay slip includes this annual figure under Staff Association Fees YTD.    

We are working with Payroll to come up with a solution for our members.  In the mean time, as indicated above, you can access the amount of your fees for 2019 by looking at your final pay slip of the year (2019-12-20).  To do this, go into Workday -> Pay -> Payslips.  Pick the pay period 12/01/2019 to 12/31/2019 and click View.  Scroll down to Deductions and look at the line for Staff Association Fees.  The far right number is the Year-To-Date figure.

Some have asked whether the Staff Association Fees can be used as a tax deduction.  We are not aware of any formal decision on this.  We are investigating, however, and will let you know once we get further clarification.
