Call for Members: Dean of Math Nominating Committee

The UWSA Appointments Committee is seeking one staff representative to help select the next dean of the Faculty of Mathematics.

Term: July 1 through April 2025
Deadline: June 21, 2024

The Vice-President, Academic & Provost is forming a nominating committee under Policy 45 to search for the next Dean of Math. In addition to a staff member elected by and from among staff in the Faculty, the policy calls for one staff member “appointed by the Staff Association, normally from the Faculty concerned.”

This call for nominations is to fill the appointed position from our membership. For more information, please refer to Policy 45, The Dean of a Faculty.

What’s involved

The committee will begin meeting in August 2024 and will likely be finished its work by April 2025.

The committee will hold approximately 2-3 meetings (1-2 hours each, plus prep time for review of materials) to discuss the search process, job ad development, and presentation of candidates. Members will be expected to spend 5-10 hours to conduct consultations.

The committee will then conduct 2-3 rounds of interviews, for which the time commitment may vary, depending upon the number of candidates selected for each round of interviews. The committee will meet to debrief on the candidates at each interview stage, and meet a final time once a vote is held on the candidate(s) put forward for consideration to the Faculty community to make its final recommendation.
