Open Education Week

Monday, March 4, 2019

Open Education Week, which runs from March 4 - 8, 2019, celebrates the open education movement and raises awareness of open education work and its impact on teaching and learning.

Waterloo campus events:

  • Professor James Skidmore has recently written a report on implementing open education policy at Ontario’s colleges and universities. Commissioned by eCampusOntario, the report confirms that one of the main obstacles to open educational resources and practices (OER/P) is career-oriented: the investment of time and effort is thought to hurt one’s chances for tenure and promotion. Skid will summarize the report’s key findings and recommendations, many of which encourage the coordination of stakeholder advocacy to improve OER/P adoption. Thursday, March 7, 1:30–2:30 p.m., DC 1304.

  • Ishan Abeywardena, Centre for Extended Learning (CEL), will facilitate a discussion of the use of open educational resources (CTE7506). Friday, March 22, 11:45–1:15 p.m., MC 2036.

Elsewhere

  • eCampus Ontario is offering daily 50-minute webinars on topics ranging from how to use Pressbooks, to how students have experienced OER in the classroom.

  • View this calendar to find out what’s happening elsewhere in Ontario.

On a continuing basis, resources are available via Open Waterloo, CTE, and the Library.
