Food Services Casual Part Time Employment Contract

Please read the following contract carefully. The clauses below will apply for all employment with UW Food Services:

  1. You are hired to work as a casual part-time employee for UW Food Services at $16.55 per hour or $15.60 per hour if you are a student under the age of 18.
  2. There is an initial probationary period of 90 days that will allow you and UW Food Services to evaluate employment suitability. Based on this evaluation, you may be terminated or you may resign from your position at UW Food Services at any time during the probationary period.
  3. Your employment contract is in effect from your first date of employment until April 30, 2024. At that time, your employment with UW Food Services may be extended based on operational needs.
  4. Regular shifts will normally not exceed 22 hours of work per week. NOTE: If you are employed elsewhere on campus, please ensure that your work week does not exceed 44 hours on a regular basis.
  5. You must swipe in and out for all shifts that you work using the Employee Swipe Card supplied or WatCard for UW students. Failure to do so may result in a late payment of wages.
  6. Regular attendance of your scheduled shifts is essential for proper workplace operations. Your supervisor will provide you with the details to arrange for time off.
  7. If you are ill and cannot work your scheduled shift, you must notify your supervisor as far in advance as possible, with a minimum of 2 hours prior to the start time of your scheduled shift. To report an absence, call the office phone number provided to you and speak with the supervisor on duty. Leave a voicemail if there is no answer.
  8. You must wear non-slip footwear and appropriate uniform for every shift.  You may be sent home if not in proper uniform and will not be paid for that scheduled shift.  Your Supervisor will provide you with a Uniform Voucher & Deduction Form which can be used to purchase the appropriate Food Service uniform shirt(s) at the identified location on the form.  The associated cost(s) will then be deducted from your pay.
  9. The use of cellular phones or similar devices are strictly prohibited while on duty and must be powered off and stored in the designated staff area if available.
  10. You are expected to notify your supervisor in writing (e.g. email, sign-up sheet in unit, letter, etc.) regarding your intention for continued employment each successive term; failure to notify may result in discontinued employment.
  11. Upon completing all Workday Onboarding activities, your earnings will be deposited directly into your bank account on a bi-weekly basis. Some exceptions may apply.
  12. Please Note: Food Service employees worked hours are tracked and managed using the Food Services (FS) labour management system, not Workday. Hours are tracked in the Food Services system when employees swipe in/out or are manually entered or adjusted in the FS management system by your Supervisor or Manager. Employees should not use Workday to enter worked hours, as this causes issues with payroll and may result in a delay in payment. If you have forgotten to swipe in/out, do not have a swipe card at the time of your first shift(s), or have questions regarding your shift hours, please reach out to your Supervisor or Manager to discuss.
  13. If you have an accident or notice a hazard at work, you are required to report it to a supervisor immediately.
  14. Food Services is a Scent-Free environment in all areas (i.e., cash operations and residences).  Please respect this policy for the safety of your co-workers.

  15. If you elect to resign during the term of your employment, we require two weeks’ notice.
  16. Non-compliance of any UW Food Services policies and guidelines may result in disciplinary actions which may include termination of employment

UW Food Services Meal Plan Policy

The compulsory UW Food Services Meal Plan applies to all employees of UW Food Services and is intended to meet the need for an enjoyable and nutritious meal while working over the traditional meal periods.

The following guidelines apply to all employees:

  • You are allowed to have ONE (1) meal per working day.  This includes a single portion of the main entrée and side(s) and a beverage.
  • A beverage during your break.
  • All items must be consumed within common eating areas on the premises by the employee.
  • Due to the high food cost for some items, the following items are not included in the UW Food Services Meal Plan: premium and bottled beverages, packaged grab’n’go items, confectionery items or anything that is scanable at the cash register.
  • Use non-disposable dishes and cutlery, fountain beverages (i.e. pop, juice, milk or water) wherever possible.

If you have special dietary needs or work in an outlet that can’t support the selection guidelines listed above, please see your manager.

I understand that as an employee of UW Food Services, I am required to pay for daily food/meals at cost, currently $3.75 per day (and adjusted from time to time).  I therefore authorize UW Food Services to arrange for a deduction from my wages, each day earnings are recorded, an amount equal to the above daily rate.

I understand that non-compliance of the Meal Plan guidelines may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
