Professors John Brzozowski and Lila Kari, Bai Li (BCS 2017) and their colleague Marek Szykuła from the University of Wrocław in Poland have received the Sheng Yu Award for best paper at CIAA 2018, the 23rd International Conference on Implementation and Applications of Automata.
PhD candidate Joseph Haraldson, with coauthors Professors Mark Giesbrecht and George Labahn, has won the Distinguished Student Author Award at ISSAC 2018, the 43rd International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation. Dr. Matthias Schonlau is the 2018 winner of the NISS Distinguished Alumni Award. The National Institute of Statistical Sciences is the US-based National Institute of Statistical Sciences. His citation reads: “Honoring his distinguished career as a research statistician in both industry and academia, especially his contributions in the area of survey methodology.”

Professor Matthew Scott has been awarded the Faculty of Mathematics Award for Distinction in Teaching. This award is given annually to teachers in the Faculty of Mathematics who have consistently demonstrated outstanding pedagogical skills and a deep commitment to our students’ education.
