Women in Mathematics (WiM) pairs undergraduate women and people of underrepresented gender identities with graduate students on research projects to boost feelings of belonging and create pathways into research 

Jason Amri

Jason Amri is an undergraduate student and Schulich Leader in the Faculty of Mathematics, currently working on a double degree in computer science and business administration.

Along with taking classes and working 9-5 for a co-op employer, the star student is also an entrepreneur and a shining example of Waterloo’s spirit of innovation.

Laura Bumbulis, an undergraduate student in combinatorics and optimization, hadn’t completed much science-related work since taking grade 11 biology.

That changed in 2021 as Bumbulis played a key role in improving efficiency at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) during her co-op work term.

For her performance during her co-op term in Spring 2021, Bumbulis is the Faculty of Math Co-op Student of the Year award winner.

Mélissa Tardibuono

Mélissa Tardibuono (BMath ’14) embodies the best values of the Faculty of Mathematics.

A hard worker, who knows what it takes to get top grades. A self-starter, with the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. And a thoughtful person with a passion to create a better world, providing opportunities for youth to fulfill their potential.

Greg Philbrick

Greg Philbrick is a PhD candidate at the Cheriton School of Computer Science, advised by Professor Craig Kaplan. He has a master's degree in computer science from Brigham Young University and he has worked as a software engineer at Stellar Science, a software company that provides scientific analysis software.
