Preparing to graduate
After the student's thesis has been accepted into UW Space, the student needs to complete their "Graduate studies intention to graduate/program completion" form and submit it to their Graduate Coordinator. Students should expect to give their department/school and the Graduate Studies and Postodoctoral Affairs (GSPA) 1-2 weeks to process their form so that the program/degree information and completion date is verified/approved by the unit, and the GSPA can record the future degree conferral date and degree for their academic record/transcript.
The deadline for submitting a "Graduate studies intention to graduate/program completion" form to the GSPA is August 31 for Fall convocation and April 30 for Spring convocation. Should a deadline fall on a weekend or civic holiday, the GSPA will extend the deadline until the following business day. Students who complete and submit their "Graduate studies intention to graduate/program completion" form after April 30/August 31 will graduate at the next convocation. Students completing degree requirements after this date must enrol as an active student and pay fees (plus applicable late fees if necessary). However, the student will be eligible for a refund of their fees according to the UWaterloo tuition fee schedule upon submission of an intent to graduate form "Graduate studies intention to graduate/program completion" to GSPA.
After all degree requirements are completed by the student, the following statement will appear on the student's transcript:"degree completed and will graduate at the [date] convocation ceremony" .
