Program & Administrative Requirements

1. Verify your degree requirements

2. Submit an application to graduate

In your final academic term, you must complete the Application to Graduate form online (previously known as the Intention to Graduate form). Please note the deadlines below:

Spring Convocation (June)

  • December 1: if requirements are completed during the fall term

  • March 1: if requirements are completed during the winter term

Fall Convocation (October)

  • August 15: if requirements are completed during the spring term

3. Fees Owing

Please ensure that you have all course fees, library fees, parking fines, etc. paid by the end of your final term to ensure your diploma is in your graduation folder when you cross the stage to accept it.

To determine if you have other fees owing, check Quest under 'Personal Data' and select 'Service Indicators.' Please see the Quest help desk for further details.

4. Ensure you have been recommended to graduate

Check your unofficial transcript on quest to ensure you have been recommended to graduate in the “Degrees Awarded” section.

5. Confirm Name and Address

Confirm your mailing address, home address, and email addresses on  Quest by  May 1st for spring convocation and  September 1st for fall convocation. This step ensures you receive your convocation invitation and information regarding tax receipts.

Official undergraduate transcript requests are processed by The Centre.

Visit the Registars office convocation page to ensure you have completed all required steps.

Plan For Convocation

The University of Waterloo community gathers in June and October each year to celebrate the awarding of degrees at convocation. Ceremonies for Faculty of Mathematics graduating students are held in the main gymnasium of the Physical Activities Complex (PAC). In June, we hold three ceremonies to accommodate all of our graduating students; they begin at 10:00am, 2:30pm, and 6:30pm. In October, Math Faculty convocation ceremonies usually take place at 2:30 pm only.

Convocation information is available on the UWaterloo Convocation website, including gown and hood rental and important ceremony information.

Ensure that you prepare yourself to convocate by reviewing the Convocation ceremony checklist prior to the ceremony.
