Course selection & enrolment

The course selection period is the creation of a wish list of courses you want to take during the next academic term. Your wish list of courses will be used to create a conflict-free class schedule for you, if you are successfully enrolled in the courses.

During the course enrolment period, also known as Drop/Add Period, students are provided with specific enrolment appointments in which they can add or drop any courses and further refine their schedule.

Before selecting courses, you can prepare by familiarizing yourself with your degree requirements in the Undergraduate Calendar to make sure you're on track for graduation. The Course Descriptions Index and Schedule of Classes compiled by the university are also great resources for planning ahead. If you have any questions regarding your course selection, you can always contact the Math Undergraduate Office (MUO).
New first-year math students should refer to the new math students course selection webpage.
New Math/BASE students should visit the Mathematics/Bridge to Academic Success in English (BASE) (formerly ELAS) webpage.

Course enrolment issues

If Quest will not let you enroll in a course, there are a couple of reasons as to why there may be an issue. Firstly, you can take a look at the Schedule of Classes to ensure that the course is being offered this term. Also, read through the common enrolment error messages web page created by the Registrar's Office for further steps on what to do.

Course Selection Override Form can be used during the course selection period if you do not have the necessary requisites. For instance, if you have MATH 117 instead of MATH 137, you will need a Course Selection Override Form. Please talk to the appropriate advisor or department for these overrides. This should be used during course selection period.

Course Override Form is used in the event a student cannot enroll themselves into a course during course enrolment period for the following reasons:

  • Class full
  • Reserve seat requirement not met
  • Instructor consent required/ Department consent required
  • Time scheduling conflict

Please note that there is no guarantee that you will be granted a course override. If you can’t get into a course, you should start by enrolling in an alternative course. By selecting an alternative course, you ensure that you at least have a “second choice” option if you cannot get an override.

For specific subject enrolment inquiries, you can locate the course override contact below:
