Registration for this event is now closed as we excitedly prepare for Friday!
The Department of Physics and Astronomy will host 115 girls (female, non-binary and trans) currently in Grades 7 and 8 for an online day of activities to engage in the exploration of physics. If you are in middle school and have an inquisitive, creative mind this free online event will broaden your understanding of what physics is, what physicists do, and what is so interesting about this field. The event will consist of a keynote speaker, and two workshops. Friday, November 19th is a PD day for WRDSB and WCDSB.
Dr. Jenni Sidey-Gibbons, a newly-minted astronaut with the Canadian Space Agency, will kick off our event with a keynote address sharing her background and experiences. She will allow a long time for a question and answer period, so come prepared!
Workshop topics vary through the fields of physics. Participants choose their top three workshops and will be enrolled in two. Each workshop includes hands-on activities and problem-solving. Participants are encouraged to engage in breakout room conversations and group work.
Each participant who attends the keynote and both workshops will receive a commemorative gift in the mail!
