The next Provincial Election will take place on Thursday February 27, 2025. Any residents who are Canadian citizens and are eligible to vote are encouraged to do so.
How to Vote
Students are allowed to vote in two municipalities if you live in Waterloo for educational purposes and your home is in another Ontario municipality. As such, any student living with Campus Housing who is eligible to vote can vote in this municipality.
Your home is the residence you regularly return to when not attending school. This could be a place you live independently or your family home.
If you do not plan to return to the municipality where your home is when you finish your education, you can only vote in Waterloo.
If you can't visit both Waterloo and your home municipality on Voting Day, you can check with your home municipality to see if they have any alternative voting methods, like advance votes, voting by mail, or Internet voting.
Voting is easier when you are on the voters list. The voters list for the election is compiled by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) and provided to the City of Waterloo.
You can check if you are on the voters list, register to vote, or update your information by using the online voter registration form.
For more information contact the Waterloo Region elections office at 519-747-8704, TTY 1-866-786-3941 or elections@waterloo.ca.
Voter identification
In order to vote, you will need to bring one piece of valid identification to your voting location with a name and address matching your information on the voters list.
The identification must be an original or a copy certified by a notary public. You cannot use any electronic copies, including photos or videos.
If you do not have valid identification or if your identification does not have the right address, you can sign a legal declaration at your voting place confirming you are eligible to vote in Waterloo.
Letter of Confirmation of Residence
You can bring your Watcard or other government-issued photo ID to your Residence Front Desk any time between February 10 to February 27. The Front Desk Assistant will generate and print a copy of your Letter of Confirmation of Residence. You will not be charged for the printing costof a Letter of Confirmation.
This letter can only be used for elections and cannot be used as a Proof of Residence for any other purpose. If you require a Proof of Residence for other purposes, please reach out to housing@uwaterloo.ca
