Living in residence is a unique experience that offers students the opportunity to connect with their peers, learn outside the classroom, and have a safe and comforting place to call home while studying at the University of Waterloo. Living in residence can also support your academics: A 2018/2019 multi-institutional Canadian  research study by the Academica Group  found that, compared to a first-year student who lives off-campus, students living on-campus are more likely to:

Learn more about the student experience

While living in residence, you’ll have access to: 

  • A Residence Life Don: an upper year student who lives and works in residence. Your Don can help with questions or concerns, provide support to the community, and help you build connections in your residence community
  • Fun and engaging events that can help you connect with your peers and build useful skills
  • Drop-in tutoring which provides you with a welcoming environment where you can receive support and are encouraged to develop your academic skills 
  • Opportunities to learn about valuable campus resources and how to access them 
  • Spaces available for studying or socializing with your fellow residents. Use may be limited due to COVID-19 health restrictions  
  • Quiet hours to ensure a quiet environment to help you stay rested and focused (extended during exams) 
  • A safe and welcoming environment for all
