François Paré talks about Francophone literature on television - again!

Monday, January 7, 2013

For the past six years, Professor François Paré of the Department of French Studies has been a featured guest on the television programEntre les lignes, a biannual review of French books on TFO - the French counterpart to TVO. A widely recognized scholar of literature from French Canada, as well as of languages and literatures of marginalized cultures and diaspora, Paré’s expertise is frequently sought.

Entre les lignes is one of very few literary television programs in Canada, and the only one where Francophone writers from French Canada can be showcased and discussed” states Paré.

While TFO’s programs are broadcast on television in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, the focus is on recent work by Francophone authors based in Ontario, highlighting five or six of the most important novels twice per year.

In the TFO program, Paré joins regular critic Sophie Perceval and host Gisèle Quenneville to discuss well-known Francophone literary figures as well as new authors. The December episode of Entre les lignescovered works by Ottawa writer Daniel Poliquin, Kapuskasing’s Hélène Koscielniak, and emerging authors like Marie-Josée Martin of Ottawa.

For the first time this year, the two shows are being taped in front of a live audience: in the Toronto Reference Library at the French book fair this past December; and coming up in May, the show will be taped in Hearst, Ontario.
