La Chaire de Recherche du Canada en études des minorités s’intéresse aux changements technologiques récents et à leur transformation des pratiques théâtrales des minorités franco-ontariennes, acadiennes et francophones de l’Ouest canadien. L’hypothèse première veut qu’en plus d’être une manifestation du marché mondialisé, l’exploration des technologies par les minorités d’aujourd’hui leur permet de se définir tout en résolvant l’écart entre le prestige et l’authenticité, entre la minorité et la majorité, entre le local et le global.
Le programme de recherche de la titulaire, Nicole Nolette, tient compte des objectifs suivants :
- Exposer la spécificité des processus de traduction théâtrale dans le sud de l’Ontario ;
- Décrire et analyser l’emploi et la représentation des technologies dans le théâtre franco-canadien ;
- Ouvrir les recherches sectorielles en théâtre aux théories et aux pratiques minoritaires et majoritaires ;
- Inscrire les études minoritaires dans le contexte de la mondialisation des pratiques artistiques.
The Canada Research Chair in Minority Studies seeks to uncover the impact of recent technological change on the practices of theatre and translation in French-language minority communities in Canada. Its research program embraces the central tenet that beyond being a manifestation of the globalized market, the current exploration of technologies by minorities is also a way to define themselves in the ongoing conflict between prestige and authenticity, minority and majority, local and global.
Within this research program, the chairholder is pursuing the following objectives:
- Expose the processes of theatre translation in Southern Ontario;
- Describe and analyse uses and representation of technologies on stage in Franco-Canadian theatre;
- Open the sectorial research on theatre to minority and majority theories and practices;
- Situate minority studies in the context of the globalization of artistic practices.
