Professor Ryan is a linguist whose field of specialization is the Acadian speech of Atlantic Canada. He has published two books on the phonology and the verb morphology of Nova Scotian Acadian dialect.
He
is
presently
one
of
the
two
principal
researchers
in
an
extensive socio-linguistic study
of
the
Acadian
speech
of
Prince
Edward
Island.
He
also
has
a
long-standing
interest
in
the
pedagogy
of
second
language
and
considerable
experience
in
the
training
of
teachers
in
French.
