Taso Alkiviades
Lab Technologist, RAC & RA2

As the RAC1 Lab Technologist, Taso is responsible for all equipment in the satellite cleanroom located in the RAC1 building.
His responsibilities include:
- Installation and optimization
- Preventative maintenance and repairs
- Operator training
- Administrative control point as site lead
Taso graduated from the Mechanical Engineering - Robotics and Automation program at Conestoga college. He has worked 8 years as an Environmental Systems Technologist at COMDEV, servicing space simulation systems, vibration test equipment and various thermal cycling systems. Taso has also worked as a Process Engineering Specialist at Aisin Canada overseeing two major assembly lines.
Jeannie Bairos
Executive Assistant to the Director

As Executive Assistant to the Director, Jeannie provides administrative support to the Director. She provides assistance with:
- Admin support for Hiring Committee, IQC Board of Directors, Executive Committee, External Awards nominating Committee, Faculty meetings
- Annual Faculty Reviews and IQC membership renewals
- Director correspondence and administrative support for the Director’s research group
- Maintaining records and copies of all IQC Memos of Understanding (MOUs)
- General day-to-day management of the Director’s Office
Jeannie first started at the University of Waterloo in 2004 in the Faculty of Mathematics with the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science and Department of Combinatorics and Optimization. She joined IQC in 2015 in her current role.

Samantha Clark

Samantha Clark is an experienced Senior Manager specializing in Liaison and Strategic Communications. With over a decade of experience leading communications and public relations for Communitech, one of North America's top innovation hubs, she brings unique expertise to IQC.
Additionally, Samantha has advised numerous early-stage startups, scaling firms, and global enterprises in the business and technology sectors. As a Senior Consultant with Hill+Knowlton Strategies, she was responsible for managing top tech accounts on a day-to-day basis.
Samantha holds a diploma in broadcast journalism and a Bachelor of Public Relations degree from Conestoga College. Her background in journalism and public relations has equipped her with excellent communication skills, making her an invaluable addition to IQC's team.
Sara Clark

As the TQT Administrative Assistant Sara maintains the daily operations of the Transformative Quantum Technologies (TQT) program. She also assists the following faculty, as well as their students and postdoctoral fellows:
Further accountabilities include:
- General administrative support to RAC2 researchers and staff
- All program orders: supplies and equipment
- Receiving deliveries
- Tracking lab equipment inventory
- Completing all travel and reimbursement claims
- Shipping via the Agile system

Christine (Chris) Dietrich
Receptionist - RAC

Chris joined the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) in July 2014 as the IQC-RAC (Research Advancement Centre) receptionist, she previously worked in the Office of Advancement at the University of Waterloo for 27 years as a Gift Processing and Administrative Assistant.
As the IQC-RAC receptionist, Chris is the initial contact at IQC-RAC1 and RAC2. She handles general inquiries from external visitors and IQC members including:
- Keys and fobs
- RAC meeting room and seminar room calendars
- Mailroom organization
- Directory board maintenance
- Contact information updates for IQC members
- Parking
John Donohue
Senior Manager, Scientific Outreach

John is the Scientific Outreach Manager at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC). John’s roles and responsibilities include:
- The Undergraduate School for Experimental Quantum Information Processing (USEQIP) and Quantum School for Young Students (QSYS)
- Undergraduate Research Opportunity program
- Group tours of IQC
- Strategic and scientific communications
- Educational outreach
- Support with government and industry outreach
- Scientific demonstrations
John’s main role is to take quantum information science out of the lab and off the whiteboard and bring it to audiences of all sizes and types, including:
- The general public through lectures about quantum information science and engineering, the importance of curiosity driven research, and the history of quantum mechanics.
- High school students through lectures and workshops on quantum information, quantum cryptography, and various quantum phenomena.
- University students through technical lectures on quantum computing, photonics, and various other topics.
John obtained his PhD in Physics and Quantum Information from the University of Waterloo in 2016, specializing in quantum nonlinear optics, followed by postdoctoral research at Paderborn University in Germany. Before that, he studied for his BSc in Physics at the University of Windsor.

As a Micro and Nanofabrication Process Specialist/Engineer, Lino is responsible for:
- Recipe development

- Statistical process controls
Lino is available to help with:
- Advice for building devices in the Quantum NanoFab
- Advice on the feasibility of fabricating a device with Quantum NanoFab equipment

- Hands-on training on equipment where he has particular expertise
Lino joined the institute for Quantum Computing in October 2016. He obtained PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering at Université de Sherbrooke in Quebec and in Integrated Electronic Devices at Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Lyon, France. In 2011, he joined McGill University where he held the position of Process Engineer at the McGill Nanotools Microfab facility until 2016.

Matt joined the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) in 2011. He manages both the long- and short-term stays of people at IQC. He is available to assist members with coordination and questions regarding IQC visitors.
Before joining IQC, Matt worked with the Math Faculty Computing Facility at the University of Waterloo.
Sandra Gibson
Nanofabrication and Characterization Scientist

As the Nanofabrication and Characterization Scientist, Sandra is responsible for providing technical support for the various characterization tools available in the Quantum NanoFab.
Her responsibilities include:
- Lab member training and qualification on characterization tools
- Tool troubleshooting and maintenance
- Providing sample- and instrument-specific guidance to users
She is available to assist users in producing high quality images, obtaining spectroscopic data and accessing advanced instrument features.
Sandra joined the Quantum NanoFab in June 2018. She obtained her PhD degree in Engineering Physics at McMaster University in 2015 and then went on to complete an appointment as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Michael Reimer’s group in IQC. Her research focused on III-V nanowire-based devices and involved a broad range of fabrication and characterization techniques, including molecular beam epitaxy, transmission electron microscopy and cathodoluminescence spectroscopy.

Greg Holloway
Electron Beam Lithography Scientist

As the Electron Beam Lithography Scientist, Greg is responsible for overseeing the various lithographic processes available in the Quantum NanoFab.
His responsibilities include:
- Process and recipe development
- Equipment maintenance
- Lab member guidance, training, and qualification on lithographic tools
He is available to help users improve their lithographic processes, or trouble-shoot fabrication issues.
Greg joined the Quantum NanoFabrication and Characterization Facility in September 2017. He received his PhD in Physics (Quantum Information) from the University of Waterloo in 2017. His graduate studies focused on spin-based quantum computing in semiconducting nanowires and quantum dots.

Nathan Nelson-Fitzpatrick

Nathan joined the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) in January 2012, after completing his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta. As the Nanofabrication Process Engineer, Nathan facilitates the use of Quantum NanoFab equipment for the IQC and WIN communities.
His main responsibilities include:
- Optimization of equipment performance
- Recipe development
- Technology integration
- Process reviews & approvals
- Equipment access reviews & approvals
- Equipment qualifications
- Statistical process controls
- Operating and recipe manuals
Nathan is available to help with:

He is available for one-on-one consultation and education on cleanroom processes, and for developing new processes.
During his graduate studies he studied micro fabrication, thin film deposition, thin film characterization, X-ray crystallography and nanodevice design. His thesis was on the design and fabrication of micro- and nano-cantilever sensors out of sputtered metal alloys for chemical detection.

As the Director of the Communications and Strategic Initiatives team, Kayleigh is responsible for advancing the Institute's vision and leads communications, outreach, and business development initiatives.
Kayleigh holds a joint Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Rhetorical Writing and Professional English, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Issues Anthropology from the University of Waterloo where she studied design thinking, marketing and online identities.
Previously, she was the Senior Manager, Liaison and Integrated Communications at IQC. Prior to joining IQC she was the Manager of Special Operations and the Community Relations Manager at Communitech. She has also held the position of Senior Digital Media Specialist at Communitech and Social Media Specialist at the University of Waterloo.

As the Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator, as well as the Fire and Emergency Evacuation Coordinator, for the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), Roberto can help with any of your safety questions. He can help you find out what safety training you require and what procedures you should follow.
As the Electronics and Instrumentation Technologist at IQC, Roberto is responsible for:
- Cryogenics
- Milling: PCB (Printed Circuit Board), Soft Substrates and Soft Metals
- Electro-plating
- General Electronics Design and Assembly
- Mechanical Design
- Electronics Shop (free consumables – general resource for IQC members)

Matt Schumacher is responsible for all financial aspects of the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), including:
- approval of expenditures
- invoicing

- reporting
- financial compliance with university policies and funding sponsors.
Matt has his CA, CPA designation and is graduate of is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University’s business program. Matt has been with the University of Waterloo for over 15 years, and with IQC since 2012.

Siobhan Stables
Managing Director

As Managing Director, Siobhan Stables oversees the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) business operations, liaises with stakeholders, provides strategic leadership, and works closely with IQC's Executive Director on all non-scientific aspects of IQC's work and development. In addition, Stables is responsible for growing strategic relationships and further establishing IQC as a leader in the global quantum community.
Previously, Stables was Director of the Communications and Strategic Initiatives team at IQC where she was instrumental in promoting and advancing the Institute's vision, overseeing and supporting government relations, communications, outreach, and business development initiatives.
Before joining IQC, Stables worked with public and private sector organizations focusing on marketing communications, strategic planning, business intelligence, and quantitative and qualitative research. She holds degrees from the University of Waterloo and Schulich School of Business, York University.
