Canada strengthens actuarial sector in Indonesia to stimulate economic growth and stability

The Faculty of Mathematics is partnering with the Student Success Office to invite students to the student portal this term. This new online communications tool is enhancing the student experience by delivering just-enough, just-in-time information for current students.

The portal is mobile-friendly and customizable by each user. It aggregates existing academic and campus information to deliver time-sensitive content such as

The Waterloo International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) team, composed of students from the Faculties of Mathematics, Engineering, Science, and Applied Health Sciences, won a gold medal for designing Staphylocide. Staphylocide is a synthetic bacterium that is designed to turn off the antibiotic-resistance gene in Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), making it responsive to treatment again.

Big E and Special K contests 2014

The Big E and Special K contests (PDF) were held on Saturday, November 1. These are mathematics contests for undergraduate University of Waterloo students.

The Special K contest is for first-year students and the Big E contest is for upper-year students.

Both contests consist of six problems, and complete written solutions are required. This year, 40 students participated, and in both contests there was a tie for first place.
