Memorial for David Sprott

David Sprott
The Department of Statistics & Actuarial Science organized a wonderful memorial to pay tribute to Professor David A. Sprott (1930-2013), who passed away on December 13, 2013.

Professor Sprott played a fundamental role for his department and faculty, serving both as founding chair starting in 1967, and also as the founding dean of the Faculty of Mathematics.

Patrick Hannigan (4A Computer Science (CS)), William Zhou (3B CS), Edward Yang (4A CS) and Daniel Yaroslavski (4B CS), were given the opportunity to showcase their learnings in front of peers and faculty along with a brief pitch of their ventures today at an Enterprise Co-op (E-Co-op) presentation session.

Seven subjects at the University of Waterloo rank among the top 100 universities in the world, according to results published this week.

The rankings, published today by U.K. firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), put UWaterloo 24th in the world in computer science and also 24th in the world in mathematics.

“We attract outstanding students and faculty members from around the world and I am delighted that their hard work is reflected in these results," says Ian Goulden, Dean of Mathematics.

St. Jerome’s University and the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Mathematics are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement that will provide for the consolidation of mathematics at the University of Waterloo. This agreement is effective May 1, 2014. As part of this agreement the faculty members in mathematics at St. Jerome's will join their colleagues in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.
