Drs. James Danckert and Marjory Phillips Recipients of 2025 Arts Awards of Excellence

The Department of Psychology is proud to announce that Dr. James Danckert and Dr. Marjory Phillips have been selected as recipients of 2025 Arts Awards of Excellence.

Congratulations to James Danckert who is the recipient of a 2025 Arts Award for Excellence in Research. This award recognizes exemplary research achievements – including both the quantity and quality of contributions – and the disciplinary impact of the awardee’s body of work. Importantly, this award also recognizes exceptional leadership on research teams and a commitment to communicating research findings to audiences outside academia. James’ pioneering work in the interdisciplinary study of boredom and his deep commitment to explaining the relevance of psychological studies of the brain to wide audiences were recognized by the awards committee as truly exceptional.

Congratulations to Marjory Phillips who is the recipient of a 2025 Arts Award for Excellence in Service. This award is given to individuals who demonstrate impact that goes beyond the usual standards of excellence for the benefit of units or peers. In her role as Director of the CMHRT, Marjory has created opportunities for students to present in the community, developed and fostered rich opportunities for clinical placements, and ensured that the CMHRT is a thriving clinic that supports both the training of clinical students and the mental health needs of the community. She has effectively navigated a number of challenges for the functioning of the CMHRT within recent years, including COVID-19, staff shortages, and a flood. Marjory has a strong presence within larger provincial and national communities of clinical psychology, representing UW on a number of councils and boards.

We hope you'll join us to celebrate both James and Marjory at the 2025 Celebration of Arts event in the Fall. We would also like to thank the students and faculty who took the time to initiate their nominations to recognize their important contributions!
