Prize: Up to $1,000
Selection: Awarded annually to the best thesis or major paper in Cognitive Science at the University of Waterloo. The Prize recognizes an original contribution to any field of Cognitive Science; work that transcends disciplines is encouraged but not required. Selection will be based on the originality and excellence of the contribution to our understanding of the mind and on demonstrated independence in making that contribution.
Eligibility: For research completed during the Spring 2025, Fall 2026, and Winter 2026 terms. Awardee must have been a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate at the time the work was completed in any program or Faculty at the university.
To apply:
- The student submits the contribution itself (e.g., Honours Thesis or Directed Studies project);
- The supervisor separately submits a 1 paragraph statement of support, which should include evidence of the student’s independence and intellectual contribution.
Both components should be sent separately to PsychMin@uwaterloo.ca with the subject line “Glushko Prize Application” by May 31, 2026.
Donor: This Prize is made possible by a generous donation from Robert J. Glushko, an adjunct full professor at the University of California – Berkeley. Dr. Glushko supports undergraduate thesis awards at over 25 institutions to support the training of the next generation of talent in Cognitive Science.
