Tobacco use is currently the leading preventable cause of death in Canada and the world. Geoffrey Fong’s International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (ITC) is a world leading research program that has built the evidence base to promote stronger and swifter action to tackle one of the greatest threats to global health. Founded in 2002, the ITC evaluates policies of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Conducting large cohort surveys of tobacco users in 28 countries, Dr. Fong has made many unique research contributions that have supported stronger and more rapid FCTC implementation in Canada and globally.
