We are pleased to share some upcoming organizational changes with some leadership positions held by Science faculty members.
On January 1, 2021, Professor Kirsten Müller began a four-year term as Chair of the Department of Biology. She is taking over from Professor Hugh Broders, who served as department chair for the past four years.
Professor Müller held the position of Assistant Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs at the University of Waterloo until the end of 2020, and is the Past President of the Phycological Society of America. Professor Müller also recently participated in the Homeward Bound program, embarking on a voyage to Antarctica to develop skills in leadership, strategy, communication and visibility.
On February 1, 2021, Professor Shawn Wettig from the School of Pharmacy will begin a two-year term as the Assistant Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, replacing Professor Müller in this role.
Since 2018, Professor Wettig has been the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies for the Faculty of Science. During this time, he has worked collaboratively with departments and schools to support students’ timely completion of their programs and has focused on increasing graduate student enrolment in the Faculty of Science. Professor Wettig has also served as the Associate Director for Graduate Studies and Research in the School of Pharmacy.
On February 1, 2021, Professor Martin Ross from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences will begin a three-year term as the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Science, taking over from Professor Wettig.
We look forward to working with Professor Ross in promoting graduate studies in the Faculty of Science.
We would like to thank each of these professors for their exemplary service to the Faculty of Science and the University of Waterloo, and wish them the very best in their new roles. We look forward to seeing the positive impacts they each make on our Faculty.
