Samantha Biglieri, Ph.D. student in the School of Planning, was recently a feature interview on the CBC program “Spark”. Samantha’s work is on the
intersection between planning and public health with a specific focus on how people with dementia navigate their communities on foot. It’s a fascinating examination of the role of the built environment and design and the livability and accessibility of our communities.

Congratulations to Assistant Professor Martine August for receiving 2019 Best Conference Paper award at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Urban Affairs Association earlier this month in Los Angles. This award is for her paper titled: “The Financialization of Canadian Multi-Family Rental Housing: From Trailer to Tower.” presented in 2018 at the UAA conference in Toronto.
The School of Planning offers our sincere congratulations to 2014 Alumni Rukshan de Silva for receiving the Young Planner of the Year award in New South Wales! Rukshan also completed a Master of Economic Development and Innovation (MEDI) at Waterloo before
embarking on his very successful career in both the private (HOK) and public (Town of Halton) sectors.
The School of Planning is proud of their alumni! We congratulate recent award recipient Meaghan Mendonca, 2012 graduate of our BES Honours Co-op Planning for being named Top 30 under 30 in Sustainability. Meaghan is currently employed as a senior advisor for Metrolinx’s Benefits Management & Sponsor Office, working on North America’s largest infrastructure project, GO Expansion.
The School of Planning is pleased to announce that Janice Barry has joined our team as of July 1, 2018, as a tenure track Assistant Professor. Janice is an established scholar, with previous appointments at the University of Glasgow, University of Sheffield and most recently the University of Manitoba.
CIP's Planning Student Trust Fund Scholarships (CIP-PSTF) is now accepting applications for its five scholarships and one bursary. Planning students are invited to learn more and apply online before March 15, 2018. Successful recipients will be notified in May and the presentation will take place at our national conference.
At SOUL 2018, student-generated content, student networking, and social opportunities will be integral parts of the conference experience. Students are invited to apply to present their research, coursework, or extracurricular projects for the Student Presentation Sessions. Deadline for submissions is February 28, 2018.
On February 19 2018, a call for poster presentations at the SOUL 2018 “Poster Playground” will open.
