The School of Planning welcomes Olivier Roy-Baillargeon to the School of Planning and extends congratulations for receiving the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship!
Olivier will be working closely with Dr. Pierre Filion to develop his research on transportation and land use Planning.
A team of creative fourth-year Planning Students scored an impressive win with their entry in the international 2015 ULI Urban Ideas Competition. Not only did Team Waterloo win first prize in the “Student Category” ($1500) -- it also won the “People’s Choice” award! This was an especially high honour, given that teams of professional consultants were also competing for this prize.
Getting involved outside the classroom really makes a difference! Martin Wu, one of our third year Planning students, recently presented to Peterborough City Council a synopsis of urban design ideas generated at a World Town Planning Day event this past January. Martin volunteered his services for the WTPD event under the direction of Kevin Duguay, a University of Waterloo Planning Alumni and professional planner based in Peterborough.
World Town Planning Day celebrates the role of the planning profession in creating livable communities. It is celebrated annually in more than 30 countries on four continents and has been celebrated for over 55 years.
Maxwell Hartt, a PhD Candidate in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo, and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) doctoral fellow, has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Canada student grant to conduct research at Tufts University during the 2015-2016 academic year. His project is entitled “Transferring Planning Strategies in Shrinking Cities.”
The AGP Brown Bag lunches have long been an excellent venue for facilitating student-faculty interaction, and contribute positively to the intellectual environment in the School. In conjunction with the AGP, the School is pleased to present the lunch speaker series for the fall term!

The 2016 Rob MacIsaac Fellowship Program is looking for students with a keen interest in transportation innovation to participate in a unique study/work opportunity at Metrolinx from January to September 2016.
The School of Planning now offers two new course-based online graduate programs. The Master’s in Planning (MPLAN) and Graduate Diploma in Planning (GDip). These online programs allow planners in Canada and around the world to earn credits towards their graduate degree without taking time away from their busy careers. Courses may also count toward continuous professional learning requirements (CPL) for registered professional planners. Please contact the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) to verify specific CPL credit requirements.
