OPPI Symposium 2016 !

Healthy Communities & Planning for the Public Realm

This year’s OPPI Symposium will be hosted at the Hamilton Convention Centre on October 5 & 6, 2016!

Pragma Council was pleased to recognize the contributions of Ashley Rudkevitch, graduate planning student, and Erin Smith, undergraduate planning student, for being outstanding student citizens and contributing to the well-being of their fellow students and to the School of Planning!

In addition to the many hours both students devoted to the never ending mound of assignments and group projects, they dedicated the remainder of their time to various student committees and events.

The School of Planning congratulates the graduating Class of 2016! Prior to the official ceremony held at the PAC, School of Planning graduands participated in the annual graduation luncheon and presentation of rings. The ring is a symbol oftheir membership in an exclusive group: Alumni of The School of Planning at Waterloo. The ceremony was a huge success and featured speeches from Kevin Yeung, a graduate student in the School of Planning, Justine Giancola, an alumnus of the school and Laura Hagerman, a graduate of the Class of 2016.

The School of Planning welcomes Olivier Roy-Baillargeon to the School of Planning and extends congratulations for receiving the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship!

Olivier will be working closely with Dr. Pierre Filion to develop his research on transportation and land use Planning.

A team of creative fourth-year Planning Students scored an impressive win with their entry in the international 2015 ULI Urban Ideas Competition. Not only did Team Waterloo win first prize in the “Student Category” ($1500) -- it also won the “People’s Choice” award!  This was an especially high honour, given that teams of professional consultants were also competing for this prize.

Getting involved outside the classroom really makes a difference! Martin Wu, one of our third year Planning students, recently presented to Peterborough City Council a synopsis of urban design ideas generated at a World Town Planning Day event this past January.  Martin volunteered his services for the WTPD event under the direction of Kevin Duguay, a University of Waterloo Planning Alumni and professional planner based in Peterborough.
