Sydney Waring, Aleece Katan, and Sarena Daljeet, all graduate students in our Clinical program, presented an excellent and engaging workshop on Mental Health 101 to University of Waterloo graduate students on May 14, 2021. The Arts Graduate Studies office hosted the event which was attended by about 20 graduate students, and the feedback was highly positive.
The Canadian Cancer Society has just announced that Professor Geoffrey Fong is the 2021 recipient of the O. Harold Warwick Prize for outstanding research achievements in cancer control in Canada. The prize recognizes Fong’s leadership of the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (ITC Project).

A new research study from the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (the ITC Project) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Waterloo demonstrates that bans on menthol cigarettes across Canada from 2016 to 2017 led to a significant increase in the number of smokers who attempted to quit, smokers who quit successfully, and lower rates of relapse among former smokers.
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo invites applications for two positions at the rank of Lecturer, for definite-term contracts of three years beginning August 1, 2021. These positions will support a Faculty-wide initiative, Arts First, designed to help undergraduate students build foundational competencies in communication and analysis in small class settings.
Abby Scholer has been selected as a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS). This honour recognizes Abby’s “sustained outstanding contributions to the advancement of psychological science” and “..places her in the company of the most prominent scientists in our discipline.” Congratulations Abby!
