Friday, March 13, 2020

UW Food Services prides itself on upholding the highest in food safety practices. In light of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns, we wanted to provide an update on the proactive steps and measures that we have taken to help keep your campus dining experiences as safe as possible.

We would like emphasize that this issue has our full attention, and we are reinforcing our already high cleanliness and sanitation standards by taking additional proactive actions. We will continue to assess the situation daily and remain committed to ensuring that the campus community continues to have access to fresh food and delicious meals during this time of uncertainty.

UW Food Services regularly practices, and will continue to practice the following food safe procedures:

  • As per the Region of Waterloo guidelines, our food handlers wash hands thoroughly and adequately as needed throughout the food preparation and service process.
  • Our food handlers avoid directly touching food whenever possible. We use utensils such as tongs, serving spoons and scoops wherever possible which act as a barrier between hands and the food itself.
  • Regular cleaning and disinfecting of all food service areas.
  • Washing all our dishware, cutlery, containers and cooking equipment in high temperature water using disinfecting sanitizers and wash.

Further precautions are currently being taken in light of COVID-19, including:

  • We have paused all food self-service options and will be happy to serve customers
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at all locations and we invite our guests to use some upon entrance
  • Increased cleaning and sanitizing of all food service and dining areas
  • All baked goods will be wrapped
  • Increased availability of pre-packaged goods

We appreaciate your understanding that, as a guest, your food service experience may look different as we navigate through this time together. Food Services locations will remain open and in service during class cancellation and online courses - for the remainder of the term.  For locations and hours, visit us here
