Ranking subjects offered by over 2,500 universities around the world, the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Rankings Consultancy has recognized various University of Waterloo subjects as the best in Canada and among the top 50 in the world.
Waterloo is #1 in Canada in hospitality and tourism management (30th in the world), remote sensing (20th), materials science and engineering (49th), electrical and electronic engineering (27th), and Energy science and engineering (21th). Thirteen other subjects are among the top 50 in the world, including
- telecommunications engineering (21st),
- environmental science and engineering (34th),
- computer science and engineering (38th),
- artificial intelligence (38th),
- physics (45th),
- and geography (49th).
These rankings continue to affirm Waterloo's reputation as one of the top universities in North America and a leader in many subjects around the world.
