Course requirements for Cognitive Psychology

PhD students in Cognitive Psychology must complete a total of 12 courses. Mandatory and core courses must be taken for a numerical grade. Breadth courses may be taken for a credit/no credit.

  • Six Cognition core courses chosen from this list:
    • Applied Practicum in Cognitive Psychology (PSYCH 758)
    • Research Practicum in Cognitive Psychology (PSYCH 759)
    • Causal Reasoning (PSYCH 769)
    • Basic Issues in Cognition (PSYCH 770)
    • Basic Visual Processes (PSYCH 771)
    • Visual Cognition (PSYCH 774)
    • Consciousness and Cognition (PSYCH 775)
    • Problem Solving, Judgment and Decision Making (PSYCH 776)
    • Human Memory (PSYCH 777)
    • Attention (PSYCH 778)
    • Language and Reading (PSYCH 779)
    • Special Topics in Cognition and Perception (PSYCH 650)
  • Four breadth courses from outside of the Cognitive area.

Academic Integrity Module

In addition, students must attend the weekly Cognitive Psychology seminar PSYCH 747 in the Fall and Winter terms.
