Geoffrey Fong wins top award for tobacco control efforts

Geoffrey Fong behind stacks of cigarette packages
A University of Waterloo researcher has been recognized as a world leader in tobacco control.

Prof. Geoffrey Fong received an award from the American Cancer Society for his outstanding research contribution.

Fong founded the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project in 2002, focused on research that combats tobacco use worldwide with the aim of reducing preventable deaths.

The award committee commended Fong's leadership in the project, which now has a network of more than 100 researchers in more than 20 countries and published more than 300 scientific articles in the past decade.
