The Psychology Department is a proud participant in the UWaterloo Green Office Initiative. As of March 13, 2017, Psychology has become a Bronze Certified Green Office, and is the first UWaterloo academic department to receive this certification.

Giving people time to think about co-operating on a task can have a positive effect if they are big-picture thinkers, but if they tend to focus on their own, immediate experience, the time to think may make them less cooperative, University of Waterloo research has found.

A series of three experiments, conducted by Waterloo researchers Igor Grossmann, Justin Brienza and Ramona Bobocel, also found that wise, or big-picture, thinkers were able to sustain their co-operation with others when given time to deliberate.

The Accelerator Centre celebrated one of its biggest graduating classes last Thursday as four startups left the nest at the local high tech business incubator.

The most recent graduates — Ecopia, InTheChat, Knowledge in Development and Trending.Info — bring the total to 55 startups that have graduated from the centre in the last decade.

Annually, an award valued at $750.00 is provided to a graduating undergraduate student enrolled in any program at the University of Waterloo. Selection are based on academic excellence, prior research experience related to child language development, and a demonstrated commitment to future postgraduate study in the area of child language development. No application is required. This fund is made possible by a donation from Knowledge in Development Inc.

This year, the award was given to two recipients.

Henri (Hansky) Santos was this year’s winner of the Warren Ober Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student in the Faculty of Arts. The award is granted to a graduate students who has made significant contributions to teaching within the Faculty of Arts.

CBC Quirks & Quarks Question RoadShow with Bob McDonald was in Waterloo last night to record their show at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in the Mike Lazaridis Theatre of Ideas. 

The Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC) participated in the second annual University CanBuild project to collect food items for donation to the food bank. The youngsters (2 ½ to 5 years of age) built a castle they called “The Good Castle” with the help of their parents and teachers.

Shy babies need to have a strong bond with their parents to avoid developing anxiety disorders in their teens, according to a new study co-authored at the University of Waterloo.
