The Psychology Department is a proud participant in the UWaterloo Green Office Initiative. As of March 13, 2017, Psychology has become a Bronze Certified Green Office, and is the first UWaterloo academic department to receive this certification.
Offices become certified by filling out a "Green Scorecard," which awards points for different sustainable actions. Bronze certification reflects achieving 1/3 of the possible points on the scorecard.
One initiative that has helped the department to achieve the bronze certification is the department's efforts to "greenify" the PAS building, maintaining flowers and a small vegetable garden on the 3rd floor PAS patio, as well as applying for a grant to add some planters to the front PAS patio entrance.
Additionally, in a joint effort with Psych students, the department has been helping to obtain and partially fund a water bottle refill station near the 3rd floor PAS elevator.
However, this is just the beginning; there's much more work to be done! If you have suggestions on how we can become more sustainable as a department, please contact the Green Ambassador for Psychology, Emily Mininger.
As of March 13th, Silver Certified offices include the Dean of Arts/Undergraduate Office, and the Centre for Teaching Excellence. Bronze Certified offices include the Dean of Engineering Office, Dean of Environment Office, Graduate Studies Office, the Library, and the Propel Centre for Population Health Impact. Check the Green Office webpage for updates.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
