Requirements for the 10 course Psych Minor (Admission effective Spring 2012 or earlier)

It is your responsibility to ascertain that all requirements for graduation have been met (see note regarding student responsibility).

Example: 1.0 academic units = 2 term courses worth .5 credit weights each.

Psychology course requirements (5.0 units)

Psychology courses required Notes
(  ) PSYCH 101/101R or PSYCH 121R, Introductory Psychology PSYCH 121R will not be offered after Fall 2013. 

3 of the 5 discipline core content courses including at least 1 of PSYCH 207 or PSYCH 261:

(  ) PSYCH 211, Developmental Psychology

(  ) PSYCH 253/253R or PSYCH 220R, Social Psychology

(  ) PSYCH 257/257R or PSYCH 323R, Psychopathology(  ) PSYCH 261, Physiological Psychology

Recommend completing the discipline core content requirements before taking third year Psychology courses.

PSYCH 220R and PSYCH 323R will not be offered after Winter 2014. 
 

2 advanced Psychology courses from PSYCH 304 through 380 (excluding PSYCH 323R), 420, 439

PSYCH 3XX transfer credits will count towards the advanced Psychology course requirements.

PSYCH 304 is no longer offered.

PSYCH 323R will not be offered after Winter 2014.

Note: Those who were at least year 2 prior to Fall 2009 will only be required to take 1 advanced Psychology course. See 'warning' below.

Warning: Those who were at least year 2 prior to Fall 2009 and choose to take 1 instead of 2 advanced Psychology courses (see note above) will be required to take 5 Psychology electives instead of 4 in order to bring the total number of Psychology units to 5.0 units.

a) You must not exceed the amount of allowable transfer credits (including internal and external transfer credits) and you must satisfy the 'residency requirements' for your home Faculty:

b) You must also satisfy the 'residency requirements' for the Psychology Minor as dictated by the Faculty of Arts and the Psychology Department (see Psychology Department policies for details).

(  ) Double counting restrictions:

  • If you plan to use Psychology courses that were taken for the Psychology Minor to also satisfy Psychology course requirements in another academic plan (e.g., Honours or Minor in Social Development Studies), please review the double counting restrictions in the 2013/2014 Undergraduate calendar carefully and consult with each of your academic advisors.

    Note: Those doing the 10 course Psych Minor have the option of following the old double counting rules which stipulated that 3 of the 10 courses for the Psych Minor could be double counted towards another academic plan.
     
  • 'Triple counting' of individual Psych courses is not allowed (University of Waterloo policy). Meaning, a single Psychology course cannot satisfy a Psychology course requirement in more than 2 academic plans. No exceptions allowed.

( ) Double counting restrictions:

  • If Psychology courses are needed for another program (e.g., Social Development Studies Major), see the double counting restrictions in the Undergraduate calendar and consult with each of your academic advisors.
    • Note: Those doing the 10 course Psychology Minor have the option of following the old double counting rules which stipulated that 3 of the 10 Psychology courses for the Psychology Minor could be double counted towards another program (e.g., Major or Minor).
  • Triple counting' is not allowed under any circumstances. This means that a single Psychology course cannot be used to satisfy Psychology course requirements in more than 2 programs (e.g., Major and two Minors).
