The deep learning revolution in Artificial Intelligence, what it means and how you can help
Artificial Intelligence has become a very hot topic and we are all amazed, and sometimes worried, by the new possibilities that the technology is bringing to our lifes. In this seminar I will present and explain the science behind the hype. Recent breakthroughs both in terms of techniques and commercial application will also be presented. Ethical issues will be mentioned along the way and at the end I will explain how the quantum computing community could help AI in a very powerful way. The seminar should contain material both for the novice and for people already acquainted with the field.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
