Description
You have been invited to apply to one of the Department of French Studies’ “French as a Second Language” bursaries. These scholarships are offered by the Government of Canada through Canadian Heritage and ACUFC [Association des collèges et des universités de la francophonie canadienne]. This program has been implemented under the Action Plan for Official Languages 2018-2025 (APOL) – Investing in Our Future. The federal government made a commitment to promoting a bilingual Canada, in particular, by supporting young English-speaking Canadians in the pursuit of their postsecondary studies in French. Criteria for eligibility
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Have completed secondary education in an English-speaking or non-official language institution (i.e., neither English-speaking nor French-speaking) and have graduated from it
- Have English as the first official language spoken
- Be a full-time student at the University of Waterloo
- Be enrolled in one of the following programs:
- French Teaching Specialization (co-op or regular)
- French and Francophone Literatures and Cultures Specialization (co-op or regular)
- Le programme de maîtrise
- Le programme de doctorat
- Students enrolled in the Three-Year General French, Four-Year General French, Honours French (ARBUS, co-op or regular) whose course load in the 2025-2026 academic year include 50% or more FR courses taught in French
Priority will be given to students experiencing financial difficulties and students from underrepresented groups.
Please note: Students may only receive this bursary once in their academic career
