Waterloo Residences acknowledges that we live and work on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The University of Waterloo is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes ten kilometers on each side of the Grand River.
The Single Graduate Student Residence Consultative Council (Consultative Council) is the official representation for all graduate students residing in CLV.
The Consultative Council will serve as a forum for students to share their thoughts, feedback, and concerns surrounding issues directly relating to graduate living accommodations in Waterloo Residences.
Provide single graduate students with the opportunity to share their feedback on all major issues related to living accommodations in Waterloo Residences.
Provide single graduate students with an outlet to voice feedback and concerns they have on topics relevant to their stay in Waterloo Residences.
Create transparency with decisions made directly affecting single graduate student’s stay in Waterloo Residences, as well as receiving feedback and potential guidance on decisions made.
Ensure Waterloo Residences is fulfilling Residential Tenancies Act exemption requirements.

During Council meetings all parties will respect those in attendance and will contribute constructive feedback.
- While all feedback from the Council will be taken into consideration by professional staff, outcomes and ultimate decisions will be made by Housing staff members.
Membership is comprised of UW students who have signed single graduate student residence contracts and the CLV Graduate Community professional staff.
Composition and format
The Council, chaired by the Housing Director or their designate, will be comprised of UWaterloo students who have signed single graduate student residence contracts.
Council dates and locations will be communicated in advance and will meet at least once each term.

Single Graduate Door Knocking Campaign
As a member of the CLV graduate community, we want to understand your experience living on-campus. During our Single Graduate Door Knocking Campaigns, Senior members of the Housing team will come to you. This provides members of the community the opportunity to share their feedback, raise questions and voice any concern’s they may have.

Who is considered a Single Graduate Student?
Within Waterloo Residences, a Single Graduate student is defined as any one of the following who have signed a single graduate contract: Graduate students (non-family), Optometry students, and 4B Accounting students.
What is the Single Graduate student Residence Consultative Council?
The Single Graduate Student Residence Consultative Council (Consultative Council) is an opportunity for single graduate residents of Columbia Lake Village (CLV) Graduate Community to provide feedback, thoughts, and opinions about topics regarding living accommodation directly related to single graduate housing in Waterloo Residences.
Examples of topics could include (but not limited to) the Housing budget, planned maintenance of the CLV Graduate community, or community suggested topics.
Single Graduate Students can submit a topic to be discussed at upcoming Consultative Council meetings.
Why was this created?
The Consultative Council was created to ensure Waterloo Residences has a formal channel for acquiring student input on the Single Graduate resident experience.
Soliciting student feedback and opening the lines of communication will ensure transparency between Waterloo Residences and our students.
Why is this only for Single Graduate students?
The Single Graduate student residence contract is exempt from the Residential Tenancies Act. With Single Graduates being exempt we must consult a council of residents to fulfil the exemption.
How can this help me?
Should you have any questions, concerns, or feedback about your Single Graduate living accommodations in the CLV Graduate Community, the Consultative Council is a great opportunity to express them. This can help in answering your questions, giving you an opportunity to meet directly with Housing staff.
When is this held and how often?
The Consultative Council will be held, at minimum, once per term. All dates, times, and locations can be found above.
Why should I attend?
You may want to attend Consultative Council meetings as all topics discussed directly affect your living situation in the CLV Graduate Community.
These meetings will be a means of educating residents, information sharing about Housing related topics, and as well gives you an opportunity to voice your thoughts and feedback.
Who from Waterloo Residences will be in attendance?
Designated staff will be in attendance at each meeting.
Council Co-chair, Glen Weppler, will be in attendance or another colleague who will act as the chair.
There will be a minimum of three (3) Housing staff in attendance at each meeting.
