About Us:
Advancing Inclusion in Mathematics Through Women in Math, Women in Computer Science, Pride Factors, and Black in Math
The Inclusion in Mathematics initiative brings together community-led groups within the Faculty of Mathematics that are dedicated to fostering equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Through Women in Mathematics, Women in Computer Science, Pride Factors, and Black in Math, we support students from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities by creating opportunities for connection, mentorship, advocacy, and community building. Together, these initiatives work to reduce barriers, celebrate diverse experiences, and help ensure that all members of the mathematics community feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Black in Math
The Black in Math connects and supports students in the Faculty of Mathematics who identify as Black. Through social events, academic support, and community-building initiatives, the group fosters a welcoming environment where students can build meaningful connections, share experiences, and thrive both academically and personally within the Faculty of Mathematics and beyond.
Pride Factors
Pride Factors supports and connects students of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities within the Faculty of Mathematics. Through social events, community-building initiatives, and advocacy efforts, the group fosters a welcoming and supportive environment where students can build connections, share experiences, and thrive both academically and personally.
Women in Computer Science
Women in Computer Science is dedicated to promoting gender equity in computing by advocating for and supporting women and gender-diverse communities, including transgender, non-binary, and gender-fluid students. Through its initiatives and events, Women in Computer Science fosters community, empowerment, and mentorship by encouraging young women and gender-diverse individuals to pursue computer science in their studies and careers, creating an inclusive learning and working environment within the School of Computer Science, and connecting with other organizations and initiatives that support women and gender-diverse individuals in computing.
Women in Math
The Women in Mathematics Committee is composed of faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students who work collaboratively to support women and gender-diverse individuals across the Faculty of Mathematics. Through research initiatives, networking opportunities, and student-led conferences, the Committee fosters an inclusive and welcoming academic environment while advancing gender equity, professional development, and meaningful engagement in mathematics.

Equity & Inclusive Communities Principles
The Faculty of Mathematics’ Equity and Inclusive Communities (E&IC) Principles set intentions for how the Faculty engages in its work. By aligning the activities of the Faculty with the E&IC principles, we set a foundation for advancing human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion, including active institutional efforts to support accessibility (including neurodiversity), anti-racism, decolonization, gender equity, Indigenization, and promoting a sense of belonging for everyone.
