PhD Seminar • Computer Graphics • Simulating the Unseen: Practical Models for Sparse Ambient Multiphase Fluid Effects in the Visual Effects Industry

Tuesday, March 24, 2026 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Please note: This PhD seminar will take place online.

Joel Wretborn, PhD candidate
David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science

Supervisor: Professor Christopher Batty

This talk will give a brief introduction of incompressible fluid dynamics. I will show examples of how fluids are used in the visual effects industry, and in particular focus on how we leverage efficient sparse discretizations to achieve the massive scale seen in movies today.
